The government has announced £1 billion of funding to support children and young people to catch up. This includes a one-off universal £650 million catch-up premium for the 2020 to 2021 academic year to ensure that schools have the support they need to help all pupils make up for lost teaching time. Although all children have had their education disrupted by the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, it is likely that disadvantaged and vulnerable groups will have been hardest hit. That is why, alongside the universal catch-up premium, the government are launching a £350 million National Tutoring Programme to provide additional, targeted support for those children and young people who need the most help.Redhill Primary Academy will receive for the full academic year, £33,360 in catch-up premium. The Academy is using the funding for specific activities to support the pupils to catch up for lost teaching over the previous months, in line with the guidance on curriculum expectations for the next academic year<gov.uk/government/publications/actions-for-schools-during-the-coronavirus-outbreak/guidance-for-full-opening-schools#section-3-curriculum-behaviour-and-pastoral-support>. Redhill Primary Academy have employed two qualified teachers, one full time and one part time to provide small group tuition for those children who would benefit form pre teaching and a particular focus for intervention in Literacy and Maths. The support is guided by the class teachers, linked to the curriculum and focused on the areas where pupils would most benefit from additional practice and feedback. All intervention follows assessment, which can be used to ensure that support is well-targeted and to monitor pupil progress. An analysis of impact will be part of regular reviews.
National Tutoring Programme
The National Tutoring Programme (NTP) was created to provide additional support to schools to help disadvantaged pupils after school closures. The programme aims to support teachers and schools in providing a sustained response to the coronavirus pandemic and to provide a longer-term contribution to closing the attainment gap.The Educational Endowment Foundation (EEF) is overseeing the delivery of this programme. Schools can choose from 32 different tuition partners to access tutoring for their pupil premium pupils. The Academy is participating in the programme accessing high-quality tutoring in literacy and maths subsidised by the government through our chosen tuition partner. Redhill Primary Academy has selected 12 pupils from Years 4-6 to complete a 15-hour block of tuition in English and maths. The tutor will be offering these sessions online to pupils. Sessions will take place after school in the Academy. The tutor and the child's class teacher will liaise as to the progress the child is making over the 15 hour block and evaluate the impact of the sessions together. Catch up plan
